Provisioning Docking Station Devices

The following procedure is focused on bulk onboard of HP Docking Station devices to be managed by the Model Policies in the Poly Lens cloud.
To onboard a single, or a few HP Docking Station devices into Poly Lens see PIN Code Onboarding for HP Docking Devices.

Onboard HP Docking Station Devices via the DHCP Auto Discovery

You can use DHCP to automatically register your Docking Station devices to a provisioning server, before initial system setup during unpacking and out of boxing, or after a system reset.

  1. You must be logged into Poly Lens, and have created an account.
  2. Device Provisioning must be enabled on the account. See Device Provisioning on an Account.
  3. On the Device Provisioning page, select the copy icon, located after the Provisioning Server Address, this will copy the address to the clipboard.
  4. Provide this information to the Poly Lens account DHCP owner.
    • DHCP Option Format: https://<ServerUser>:<Password>@<ProvisioningServerAddressURL>.
    • Your network environment will vary based on your deployment, however, the system looks for option number 160 and 66 (in that order) in the response received from the DHCP server.
  5. Connect the monitor(s) via HDMI, DP, or USB-C DP Alt. Mode (non-TBT) ports.
  6. Power on the Docking Station device.
  7. Connect the RJ-45 cable to your docking station.
Note: Please ensure that no notebook is attached to the docking station.
  8. A blue breathing light should appear on the Docking Station device.
  9. The device will be onboarded to Poly Lens with a graphic showing success on the monitor.
  10. After onboarding into the Poly Lens Account, it is recommended that ITDM preconfigures the Wi-Fi settings for the docking station. The policy can be applied to the group of onboarded docking stations, installed in the organization's shared or hoteling spaces. This ensures end users on the company Wi-Fi and using a docking station with their PC, to receive ongoing Poly Lens cloud firmware updates.
  11. Once the network configuration is set up, the following will happen if a firmware update is available:
    • The Docking Station Device will download a firmware update.
    • When the firmware is downloaded, the firmware update will start.
    • When the firmware update is completed, a green LED will appear.

Note: When the docking station is shipped to an end-user at a non-company location, the ITDM will need to assist the user in onboarding their Wi-Fi credentials via the Docking Station Configuration page, to receive Poly Lens firmware updates.
