PIN Code Onboarding for HP Docking Station Devices
The following procedure is focused on a single, or a few HP Docking Station devices into Poly Lens. To bulk onboard or to onboard Docking Station devices to be managed by the model policies in Poly Lens, see Provisioning Docking Station Devices.
Onboard a HP Docking Station Device with a PIN Code
This section provides instructions on how to PIN onboard a Docking Station device. During the onboarding process, please make sure the notebook is not connected to the HP Docking Station. Please ensure that DHCP is not enabled on port 160 and 66 as it is used for bulk onboarding and follow the steps below:
- Connect the monitor(s) via HDMI, DP, or USB-C DP Alt. Mode (non-TBT) ports.
- Power on the Docking Station.
- Connect the RJ-45 cable to your docking station.
Note: Please ensure that no notebook is attached to the docking station. - Press the power button twice and a blue breathing light should appear on the Docking Station. If double tapping doesn’t work, wait 10 seconds and try again.
- A QR code will display on your monitor, and within 30 seconds a PIN code will appear.
- Once the PIN code is displayed on your monitor, you can log in to Poly Lens Cloud to register the device. This can be done in two ways:
- Using a mobile device (iPhone or Android):
- Scan the QR code using the camera on your mobile device.
- A Poly Lens log-in page will appear. Log in to your account, and the Register Device form will appear.
- Provide the PIN displayed on the monitor and additional information as needed to complete the registration.
- Using a computer instead of a mobile device to register the device:
- On your computer, go to Poly Lens and log in to your account.
- Go to Manage > Register Device and select Register a Single Device.
- Provide the PIN displayed on the monitor and additional information as needed and complete the registration.
- Using a mobile device (iPhone or Android):
- An on-screen notification for successful onboarding will appear on the monitor and the Docking Station device will now reboot.
- After onboarding into the Poly Lens Account, it is recommended that ITDM preconfigures the Wi-Fi settings for the docking station. The policy can be applied to onboarded docking station, installed in the organization's shared or hoteling spaces. This ensures end-users on company Wi-Fi and using a docking station with their PC, to receive ongoing Poly Lens firmware updates. For more information, see the Policies section.
- Once the network configuration is set up, the following will happen if a firmware update is available:
- The Docking Station Device will download a firmware update.
- When the firmware is downloaded, the firmware update will start.
- When the firmware update is completed, a green LED will appear.
Note: When the docking station is shipped to an end-user at a non-company location, the ITDM will need to assist the user in onboarding their Wi-Fi credentials via the Docking Station Configuration page, to receive Poly Lens firmware updates.
